i was in the middle of a cactus conservation project in the semi-arid regions outside puebla, just minding my own business, taking notes on the prickly pears. it was a pretty calm afternoon until i felt a strange hum resonating through the air. at first, i thought it was some kind of electrical interference with my equipment, but then i noticed the shadows on the ground began to swirl around like some bizarre dance. looking up, i saw a translucent disc hovering silently, almost as if it were observing my every move. the disc seemed to have a metallic sheen, but its surface was constantly shifting like liquid mercury. it hovered there for what felt like an eternity, and as i waved my hand, i swear the thing mirrored my movements. then, as abruptly as it appeared, it zipped off towards the horizon in a jagged path, leaving me with more questions than answers.
