A light moving at changing speeds not in a linear direction as a satellite

I live outside of town and I have a habit of standing outside and watching the stars at night. I am familiar with seeing many satellites float across the sky or planes. The object entered my frame of vision heading southeast in a sort of squiggle line fashion is the best way to explain it. It was almost like it wanted to look like a satellite but it couldn’t maintain a steady speed or course of direction. Speeding up and slowing down as it almost looked like a drunk driver swerving across the sky for a lack of better terms. The object entered past over my house and as I stepped out into the yard to follow it, it began to curve slightly to true south. After changing directions its speed began to stabilize, it flashed and then the light just went out. Not over the horizon or behind a cloud, it was in the middle of a cluster of stars moving, flashed briefly and then just vanished.
