My 14-year-old son and I observed an occurrence in the night sky this evening that we can’t explain. Sitting on the patio with a fire, we observed a large number of steady white lights moving across the sky (mostly independently of one another although in a few instances in tandem for a time) in a range of different directions. The lights’ movements were not the steady, smooth path of an aircraft or satellite; instead their movements resembled those of a balloon bobbing in wind currents or even the flight of an insect, with minor variations in direction and speed but a general overall heading in all cases. There was no correlation with the heading of the lights’ paths and the wind, as they moved in all directions. Many of the lights we saw — I would estimate about 20 individual lights in 45 minutes — were traveling, roughly, on the 330-150 compass axis in both directions but again, we saw them heading in many directions. The most we saw at any given time were three, and there were few moments in the period in question without any moving lights visible. They made no sound and moved at varying speeds. They did glimmer in the night sky a bit and in a few instances they disappeared.…
