Witness Account

I was at my friend Carlos' rooftop garden, where we were experimenting with homemade solar ovens. It was around midday, and the sun was blinding, but something caught my eye, a metallic glint that didn't belong to any plane I've seen. Hovering just above the cactus-lined ridge, this thing looked like a giant chrome walnut. It reflected the sun so brilliantly that it was hard to keep my eyes on it for too long. As it hung there, completely still, we could hear a low hum, like the sound of a thousand cicadas amplified. Carlos grabbed his camera, but as he focused, the walnut began to twist and split into two identical halves that rotated around each other, as if in some cosmic dance. Suddenly, they shot off in opposite directions, leaving us with our jaws dropped and his camera shutter still clicking.
